Neil,
You are exactly right on the shuffle- second line then first line. The notation breaks the shuffle down into each of the sounds.

Keep in mind that this system presents steps quite a bit differently than traditional tap classes because of the additional information. Might take a bit to get used to, but ultimately, you should be able to pick up an entire tap routine in notation and read it, just like a song for the piano. That's the goal, anyway.
Good luck, and if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to send them this way.

Neil,
Great to have you with us! It's also fantastic that you're getting back into tap at your age! I think you'll really like FootNotes™, and I'm working on videos to supplement the lessons in the book. Check back for announcements on the videos and other stuff.
Thanks,
Greg

Greg.

Happened across your site. I am a jazz pianist, 77 years young, and getting back into tap again. Would like to purchase your first book by Visa next Thursday. It is such a great idea, using the music staves. Loved your demo of Emily...Johnny Mandel would be proud of it. Looking forward to ordering and getting the book at your earliest. Take care Neil
